Necessity is the Mother of Invention

The proverb “Necessity is the mother of Invention” means that we try to discover the ways or means so that we may get our things we need in necessary situations. When, we come to know that we require something new which cannot be gained from nature, we are forced to achieve them with our efforts. In other way, if a person feels hungry, he will search food or manage it. Hence, necessity is the mother of invention.
Having peeped into our history, we find that all the inventions were made due to the pressing nature of the necessity. When man was uncivilized & inhabited in the hunting stage, he used to think all kinds of tricks to catch beasts so that he might achieve food. Thus he used to catch animals for preparing their food.
At earlier stage, man had no clothes what he gets today. He used to put hide or skins of animals on his body. When men felt nature effect like hotness, cold, rain, etc…, he thought for clothes. In order to get protection for his life against the bitterness of nature, forced him to make cloth so that he may cover his body comfortably.
When human felt the necessity of expressing self feelings to other, he invented language & communication system. In order to keep some record, they invented writing. For spreading news and knowledge, they invented paper and printing system. At earlier condition, men inhabited in caves and on trees. But, there they felt uncomfortable therefore, to live & to get protection from nature calamity; they built different types of homes. They used many types of things like mud, hide, stones and tree’s branches. Even today, most of the people build many types of houses and use many things as bricks, wood, stones.

Not only this, most of the persons who live in hilly stations have strange houses. They live in such hut which is quite covered with snow. They burn lamps inside it so that it may be hot. In Japan, the people use paper and wood to make their home. Usually, they use light material due to earth quacks. In Japan, earthquake is general thing. It often comes there.

In their daily work, the people found many hindrances due to ocean or rivers. Therefore, in order to cross long distance through ocean or rivers, men invented ships & boats. Not only this, most of persons with two or three families live in very long boat today. Generally, it is called house boat. A house boat is about 10 to 15 meters long.

When, the men felt themselves in danger from beast or enemies, they invented many types of fatal things like sword, spear, bow & arrow, etc. Even today, to destroy the enemies and to protect self country, invert horrible and destructive weapons are invented.
At earlier stage, there were few people who used to give treatment and make many useful medicines for the patients or sick person. Generally, they were called physician or doctor. In order to give good or better treatment, new medicines and injections are being invented. Due to the necessities of saving mankind from the hands of death, the people make their best efforts and invest many new medicines. Not only this, today, most of the operations are made about which we can’t imagine .If a man’s heart catches disease, his heart can be changed with that result he may live for his rest life. But, it is matter of sadness that most of the people use this technique for their wrong purposes.

We have many examples to prove that necessity is behind all the activities inventions. The expansion of trade and commerce are due to its necessity. You must have heard about the story of thirsty crow. It is something like this: Once, there was a crow that was very thirsty. He wanted water and wandered many places. He flew everywhere in search of water. Unfortunately, he failed to get water anywhere. After sometime, fortunately, he came to know about a pitcher that was at a few distances. In hope of water, he went near the pitcher where he found that there was some water at the bottom of the pitcher. He tried his best to drink it but failed to reach the water. He thought for a moment and saw some pebbles near the pitcher. He picked up each pebble with his beak’s help and dropped into the pitcher. Doing it, the water rose & the crow drank it & quenched his thirst.

Thus, we find that in order to get water and under the pressing need of it, the crow had to be forced to think the trick of dropping the pebbles into the pitcher. This is why. When we need something extra to fulfill our purposes, we have to search our proper way or mean so that we may able to do what we want. In this way, we invest many types of useful matter or things.

As a result, it can be said that all the inventions have not been due to the necessity. The scientists feel great pleasure in investing many types of new things. They invented them for the sake of comfort. Some do it for their self interest or some do for no interest. It doesn’t matter that there is any need or not.
